The same story every year: in June people think "it'll be fine" and end up empty- handed in July. The Four Days Marches brings thousands of walkers and visitors to Nijmegen and the surrounding area, and the number of places to stay doesn't grow with demand. Book early and you'll have plenty of choice at a normal price. Wait, and you'll pay more for less — or have to look further afield.

The rule of thumb: earlier is better

There's no hard deadline, but there is a clear pattern: campsites and centrally located accommodations are typically the first to sell out, often months before the event. Wait until a few weeks before, and you'll mostly be looking at options outside Nijmegen itself.

Rule of thumb: start looking as soon as next year's dates are announced — that's usually well before summer.

Who should book first

• International visitors — arranging travel time, flights, and leave already forces early planning. Combine that with your accommodation search.
• Groups — the bigger the group, the earlier you need to be. A spot for 2 is easier to find last-minute than one for 8.
• Anyone wanting a specific location — close to the start/finish, or specific facilities — has the least flexibility and therefore the most urgency.

What happens if you're too late

No need to panic — there are always options, they just shift:

• Further from Nijmegen (Wijchen, Groesbeek, Cuijk, and other surrounding towns)
• More expensive, as scarcity drives up the price
• Less choice in type of stay — camping typically fills up before hotel rooms further away
